I am somewhere between nervous...and pissed off.
I have never been a politically minded individual. Whether it be in the work place, at school or at home, politics are not my thing. With this huge election in 2008, I have found a new interest and expanded my current disgust for all things political.
While studying communications in college, I learned a lot about debate, persuasion and other types of speeches. While watching debates between our democratic and republican nominees I often find myself at a loss for words or simply having way too many questions, comments and concerns about just what is going on!
I started to watch this campaign closely to hear the truth from both sides (naive, I know) instead I got a bunch of defense, hardly no offense, if they were playing tic-tac-toe..it'd be CATS. Anyhow at this point I am just about ready to throw up. Is the objective of these debates to apply what you think is right for our country and put that up against your opponents ideas, or is it to amuse the audience? Or perhaps to do as much lying and misleading as possible in order to never have to state your stance on the issues. Or maybe it's to see exactly how many times in one minute you are able to contradict yourself and your whole administration. In our current economic situation, I find it hard to trust any candidates, republican or democrat, president or vice president, at least not on my own accord or know-how anyway!
This morning I had this on my mind while I was browsing http://www.cnn.com/ and low and behold ( they never fail me) they had researched the exact topic that plagued me! If you are as lost as I am as to what is fact, fiction or indifferent, you will love this article they posted on http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/category/fact-check/
This site in reference to the debates and even some speeches, clearly outlines statements made by the candidates and whether they were true, false, misleading, incomplete etc. Ooh! Exciting, I know!
Kinda scary though, out of 20 statements, ads, etc the Obama campaign had 8 statements proven to be true with one false. The McCain campaign rang in with a whopping 4 false statements, 5 misleading statements and 2 true statements, in which one of those truths was about himself...what in the world? Is this politics? Is this what it is all about, the misrepresentation of leadership? The carrot on a rope leading the horse which is us as Americans to a mirage oasis? What is wrong with gathering up your facts and what you believe to be true and laying it all out to present to us thus allowing us to make an honest decision based on the truth? I just don't get it, are they running for a spot at a prestigious criminal law firm or to be our next president?
I will say this, even if this never reaches another pair of eyes, the lies, deceit, and negativity are all major turnoffs, and it makes me want no part in this whole fiasco...BUT no, no..if I don't voice my opinion, I cant complain come January 2009, so yes, I will be rocking the vote, even if I do lose my lunch first!
